About the London School of Sports Massage (LSSM)

The London School of Sports Massage (LSSM) launched the world's first Sports Massage course in September 1989. Founded by Mel Cash, the programme was based on the first book dedicated to Sports Massage, which he had written and published the previous year.

More than three decades later, LSSM has established itself as the UK's leading provider of professional massage and soft tissue therapy education. Throughout that time, our mission has remained the same: to develop highly skilled therapists who can assess, treat and support people suffering with musculoskeletal pain and injury.

Pioneering Hands-On Musculoskeletal Healthcare

LSSM has always been more than a massage training school.

As the needs of clients have evolved, so has our approach to education. Our tutors, all experienced practising therapists, saw an increasing number of people seeking effective hands-on treatment for persistent pain and injury that was no longer available elsewhere. Drawing on decades of clinical experience, they developed advanced skills in assessment, treatment and rehabilitation that have become an integral part of our teaching. This ensures our graduates leave with skills that are relevant to today's private sector musculoskeletal healthcare.

Learning from Experienced Clinicians

Every LSSM tutor is an active clinical therapist who continues to treat clients alongside teaching. This means our students learn from professionals who apply the techniques they teach every day.

Rather than simply demonstrating techniques, our tutors explain how experienced clinicians assess problems, make treatment decisions and adapt their approach to each individual client. This practical clinical reasoning is one of the qualities that sets LSSM graduates apart.

Designed for Adult Learners

Our courses are designed for people who want to train while continuing to work or manage family and other commitments.

Weekend classroom workshops provide intensive practical training, allowing students to develop hands-on skills through supervised practice and individual feedback. These practical sessions are supported by structured online learning, giving students the flexibility to study the theory at times that suit them while keeping classroom time focused on developing clinical competence.

A Supportive Learning Environment

We believe people learn best when they are challenged, encouraged and supported.

Our tutors create an enjoyable, professional learning environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, develop confidence and build practical skills step by step. Throughout the course, students benefit not only from structured teaching but also from the wealth of clinical experience that our tutors bring into every classroom.

Preparing You for a Professional Career

Our goal has always been simple: to train outstanding hands-on therapists with the knowledge, practical skills and clinical confidence to build rewarding careers.

For more than 35 years, LSSM has helped shape the profession through high-quality education, clinical excellence and a commitment to raising professional standards. We continue to build on that legacy by preparing graduates with the skills, confidence and professionalism needed to succeed in modern musculoskeletal healthcare.
