Sport and Remedial Clinical Massage & Soft Tissue Therapy
Your pathway to a rewarding and stimulating lifelong career
This qualification teaches you how to safely and effectively help people of all ages and backgrounds who are suffering from chronic muscular pain and minor injuries.
Traditionally, these conditions were treated by Physiotherapists using hands-on treatment techniques. Over time, however, Physiotherapy has evolved into a predominantly exercise-based profession, with far less emphasis on manual treatment techniques. While this change reflects developments within today’s public healthcare sector, the need for skilled hands-on therapists remains as great as ever.
As a result, the demand for well-trained soft tissue therapists extends far beyond the sports massage market. Chronic muscular pain and minor injuries affect people throughout all stages of life, and as access to hands-on treatment within public healthcare becomes increasingly limited, private practitioners are playing an ever more important role in meeting this need.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this profession is the variety it offers. Therapists work with people from all walks of life and encounter a wide range of injury scenarios and physical conditions, making it continually different and stimulating. Helping people improve their physical wellbeing make this an especially fulfilling career.
As healthcare increasingly incorporates technology and AI-driven systems, the value of skilled human touch delivered in a calm therapeutic environment is likely to become even more valued. Hands-on therapy provides not only physical treatment, but also reassurance, care and human interaction that technology cannot replace.
Because there are relatively few employed positions within this sector, most therapists work on a self-employed basis. For this reason, the qualification also includes guidance on how to build and develop a successful professional practice. This gives therapists the opportunity to become their own boss and create a working pattern that suits their lifestyle and family commitments.
Our therapists work in a variety of settings, including:
Working from home Providing home visits Renting treatment space within gyms, health clubs or wellness centres Working alongside Physiotherapists and Osteopaths in private clinics Supporting sports teams and dance companies
What can you earn?
Example: Treating four clients a day, five days a week (a 20-hour working week), at £50 per treatment, would generate approximately £50,000 per year.
